I’ve got some complex FLAs and SWFs from an online game that I need to get in to AE for compositing. The files were built using next movie clips, there’s no animation on the main timeline, thus the swf looks great when you publish it from Flash, but is just a still when you get it into AE. Is there a way to get the swf to play in AE short of moving all the flash animation to the main timeline?

I never solved this problem, but it may interest someone to know that I made some progress by changing movie clips instances into graphic symbols. If you have a graphic symbol with animation nested inside, even if there’s no animation on the main timeline, you can publish the swf and AE will display it properly.
