  Seeking litterature about what we do. Any surgestions?

  Ok,

  I’m quite experienced with video-compositing.
  I’m quite good at tweaking my key plug-ins so to obtain a good result.
  I’m quite creative and sense my way through the levels parameters to get what I want.
  I’m quite good at actually feeling my way through a project and ending with what we planned.

  Now! I don’t KNOW what I’m doing. Well I do, but I can’t explain it. When I work it is with a hunch, but I have no school behind me that told me “This is right! This is wrong!”

  That is ok as far as I’m working for clients that need results and not explanaition.

  But now I want to parse on my practical knowledge and I need words and terms to describe what I do. I need to support my working experience with good solid theory.

  THE QUESTION: Have you any surgestions regarding litterature about video compositing?

  (I read Ben Wagonners Compression for Digital video and it was good. It was about compression though but good. It confirmed me on what I found out myself and gave me a vocabulary so I teach now).

  Well, I read some good titles on the subject:
  “The Art & Science of Digital Compositing” by Ron Brinkman, it’s from 1997 or something but still OK and written from (nothing real) Shake
  and node-based compositing point of view, but the “scince” part is the same.
  “Digital Compositing for Film and Video” by Steve Wright is a bit more complicated and mathematical (hazardous for creatives)
  and it’s elaborates on some of the everyday tasks: Transfer modes, mattes and keying, color corrections etc.
  “Color Correction for Digital Video” is also a fine piece of work, it taught me to a lot on CC, especially the part about reading
  obscure vectroscopes.

  Try searching Amazon on “compositing”. Brinkmann’s book may give you what you need.
