  • cant create Image Buffer error – AE CS4 and Latest Mac

I’ve tried everything I can to find out info on this ( only found docs from 2004 or 2006)… can anyone tell me why cs4 and the latest mac with 16 gig of ram gives me this error. My partner has a similar machine with more ram but the only difference is that he is on Leopard and I am on Snow Leopard. His machine gives the same results.
The only way I can complete a render is to purge all then restart render from just before error report and keep repeating this process until I finally get to the end of my comp. Then I have to piece it together in post. Really annoying for a brand new machine.
Most of my comps are working in 3D space, sometimes I even get the error with standard def comp sizes with footage or images no larger than HD.
    Can anyone help
    Cheers

Those older documents that you refer to are just as relevant now.

The main reason that we made After Effects CS5 a 64-bit application was so that problems like this dreaded image buffer error would never happen again.

For After Effects CS4, I recommend that you try reducing the RAM requirements for rendering of the frames in your composition. Here’s a section in After Effects Help that gives information about how to go about that.

For me, choosing Edit > Purge > Image Cache fixed the problem. I have to do it before each render.

Also here are more possible solutions:

    Good luck 🙂

    Thanks Todd,
I think I am pushing the bounds a bit with my project…the only thing i have not tried is the little secret menu, but anyway I think I might upgrade if that’s going to stop this really annoying problem.
    Thanks again for your reply
