Fire to ice text effect
I want to create an effect that has text freeze into ice then turn into another text thats on turns into fire. what would be the best way to achieve this affect? would I need some plugins or could I use standard After Effects tools?

In this blog post, I show a screenshot of something made with After Effects CS5, using FreeForm (which comes with After Effects CS5): text made into ice that melts away. If you follow the links in that post, you can see a similar fire/lava result.
