Anyone used an Alzo Quad (Kino Flo Diva knock-off) Light?
I’m thinking of buying one: $365.00 for a 600w equivalent

I used a 4 tube version on a shoot last winter. We had no problems – footage looked great. Can’t talk to color fidelity of the tubes. We simply white balanced. The unit is well-made – not flimsy. This was not a comprehensive test, just shot with it. It’s definitely on my list for future purchase.

These units will almost certainly have a green spike. If they are the only source of light, then manual white balance will take care of that problem. Otherwise, if they are used with daylight (and bulbed to daylight) and/or tungsten units (and bulbed to tungsten,) it will probably be a good idea to add 1/8 or 1/4 or more minus green. Otherwise, areas covered by these units will have a green cast while the rest of the scene looks normal. Or, if you manually white balance to an area lit only by these units, the rest of the scene will look majenta. Trying to selectively clean that difference up in post will be a nightmare.

There is no dimming option. We also noticed a flicker on a couple of units borrowed from a friend of mine on lower shutter speeds. Not sure if it was power related, but certainly something to worry about.
The reflectors were also a bit funky, not casting a completely even light. That could be corrected with diffusion, but not a good thing for lighting a green screen for example.
Definitely much greener and heavier then the Divas as well.
Basically, I can tell you that we tried about 4 different knock off brands and I would never look back from the Divas as far as fluorescent goes.
In the end, tungsten still holds its ground however…
Kind of like plasma vs LCD: warmer, more power, heavier, but still a better picture.
