Title Tool error?
I work in HD 1080p in MC 8.4.5 on Mac.
All of a sudden when I click on Title Tool, I get this message;
“This operation requires you to select a SD format for this project. Please choose between NTSC & PAL. Note: This selection will be set permanently in this project.”
Avid forces me to either choose one of these options or force quite the program. No other way out.
Why is this happening? -

This message can occur if you have a mismatch of frame rates. What frame rate is your 1080p Project?

And so what was the answer?
In my case the project is 1080p 24fps
It always has been, but recently when I moved to another computer, for no reason the project would never open. In the end after changing User settings, deleting MCStates, and anything else I could think of, the only way out was to make a new project of the same frame rate at 24fps 1080p (film) – same as the original project – and then after opening that successfully, I dragged in all my bins and carried on – until now when I go to modify a title. yeah, that’s right, modify an existing title! What is that about.
If anyone has any advice – i’m all ears. Main thing is that if I choose PAL or NTSC, is this gonna bugger up the project in some unforeseen irreversible way that I am gonna regret?
(think I will just backup the project folder before I choose one…just in case.

It’s part of the original Universal Mastering feature set. 1080p/24 can be used in both PAL and NTSC based countries and all this is doing is setting a flag as to what the base format to consider when invoking the mastering outputs via digital cut and desired output frame rate. Part of the original functionality was creating multiple versions of the same title in the background (PAL 4:3, PAL 16:9, NTSC 4:3, NTSC 16:9) so that the wouldn’t get resized and ending up looking softer on graphics. In a world of file-based media and deliverables, it does not have much value for tape-based outputs so you can pick PAL if you’re in PAL based country, NTSC if in an NTSC based country then forget all about it.
