Problems with MC 8 and XDCAM
Hi.
Bought full license today and installed MC 8 over MC 7 on the Mac Pro. We have a Black Magic Decklink 2 card.
Currently working on some XDCAM material but MC 8 is acting wierd. After a while of editing I get the spinning wheel of death for a while and then the text: “SFPlayConsumer::Execute TIMEOUT” in the viewer.
I sometimes also get an error message like this:
The MC then keeps on hanging up like this until restarted, and sometimes restarting won’t help. Only waiting for a period of time seems to help and then I can edit again for about an hour or so before this happens again.
I tried to re-download the XDCAM-codec for AVID from Sony and re-install it, but that didn’t help.
I read that some had issues with Black Magic cards on MC 6 and that uninstalling the BM software rid the problems, and also the monitoring capability.
Since we’ve been running stable on MC 7 I doubt that Black Magic would once again be an issue?
Any ideas on this?

What do you mean by this? I believe the proper Avid Mac procedure is still to first de-activate/uninstall MC7 and then re-install/activate the new version, MC8. Which OS?

Yes, were in extreme hurry and had to install it straight on top… Perhaps I should uninstall and re-install…?

Yes, normally, all projects, bins, plug-ins and user settings are not removed when you uninstall. But, back them up from the Finder, just for safety.

It’s one of these annoying issues which cannot be recreated in any way. It just happens when it happens.

Has BlackMagic certified their drivers for MC 8 already? This may be another reason for this weird behaviour.

Hi Jan,
That might very well be the case. I had contact with AVID support during the day and it might be a driver issue.
I downgraded to MC 7.0.4 and the problem remained. We also figured out that turning off audio scrubbing made it work better without the hangupps.
I’ll get back in touch with support again, as soon as the station is available and try to fix the problem.

I experience the same error with the latest 10.1.1 driver from blackmagic, although it helped me get rid of other errors. With this version the above workaround by removing the IO PLUGIN didn’t make a difference with me.
