  Trouble reconnecting EDL to MXFs in Avid

  Hey guys,

  I’m having problems with relinking media to an EDL I imported in Avid.

  Workflow was the following:

  Shot RED Epic
  Transcoded R3Ds to .movs with DaVinci Resolve
  Edited .movs with Adobe Premiere Pro
  Exported EDL from Adobe Premiere Pro

  Transcoded R3Ds to MXFs with DaVinci Resolve
  Imported MXFs into Avid using Media Tool
  Imported EDL into Avid using EDL Manager

  The timeline in Avid that I got from the EDL is now all red, and is not relinking to the MXFs I have in my media bin. I’ve tried “relink” with several different sets of settings, but to no avail.

  Any idea as to what I’m doing wrong and how I can fix it?

  For both the sequence and the newly created clips, what is in the column for TAPE? That needs to be the same to start the relink process. Or, what was set for REEL in Resolve on both cases? If those are an exact match, then we can take it from there.

  For the MXFs, there is nothing listed under “Tape” or “TapeID”. There is no column for “Reel”.

  I’m not sure how to check this for the timeline…

  Hmmm…. it looks like the REEL was not defined in Resolve. REEL becomes “TAPE” in Media Composer. Never a good start, but if you are on 6.5 or later you can use a different column to link on.

  When you loaded the EDL in EDL Manager, what were some of the sources listed there?

  Yessir, Avid 6.5.2, Premiere Pro CS6. DaVinci Resolve 9.

  The EDL looks a bit weird to me… listed, for example, is:

  002 UNKNOWN AA C 05:19:(etc etc)
  AUD 3 4
  * FROM CLIP NAME: a025_c003_01018Y – 19CT1

  The “UNKNOWN AA”… is that an issue? I have absolutely no experience with Premiere Pro, and limited experience with Avid so I may have created the EDL incorrectly. CMX3600, looked like it went smoothly, but I can’t be sure.

  I don’t think Avid supports EDL’s where the source ID is in the comment column as in your example versus a more traditional source EDL that looks like:

  002 a025_c003_01018Y – 19CT1 AA C 05:19:(etc etc)

  Except that a CMX3600 does not support more than 8 characters. It also looks like the editor added – 19CT1 to the clip name.

  I need to see of there is a way to get comment as source. Can you zip up the bin and the EDL from Premiere into an email and send to michael(at)24p(dot)com
