I am working in a Post house and my Assistant Editor wants to transcode a Media Composer project with Media Encoder.

I told her a QT reference file would be efficient and there would no loss in quality through the channels. However, I suggest this as an experienced Final Cut editor and a lite Media Composer editor.

Is there a better workflow for this process?

Not using Media Encoder is not an option.

    Thank you

If it’s non-AMA media…if it is Avid media…then a ref QT works great. Avid cannot export ref QTs of AMA media…must be Avid codecs.

    But you’re right…

    Talking about that,

Not sure if it’s also possible to export QTref with longGOP medias either.

I beleive it isn’t or it wasn’t. Does someone confirms that? or has it changed?

    Fred.

Can you drop in all the 3 files that QT ref creates? Does it treat them as a single clip? Stig

Correct. Long GOP you can’t do REF QT either.

I can confirm that Ive been unable to export a qu ref from a seq containing Long GOP media or AMA linked media.
    Which brings forth a question.

I once had a long seq that had a single frame of AMA media left in it by accident, but this was enough to stop me being able to export the qt ref i needed.
Is there a way if having AVID show / highlight / identify any AMA media from within mountains of non AMA media?
