No Sound In Source Monitor
Hi guys,
So I’ve got a very strange issue. When I play anything in the source monitor of Avid the audio bars are moving but nothing is coming out of the speakers. This is the same when playing the calibration tone. If I put a sequence in the source I get audio, and likewise a sequence in record. Anyone had this issue?
System is HP8760w Elitebook
Win 7 Pro 64
Avid MC 6.5.2
Running through USB 3.0 to Intensity Shuttle

Is it possible the source has audio on tracks that aren’t A1+2? If so, choosing Stereo on your audio mixer’s output instead of Direct Out will route any non A1+2 audio out analog outputs 1+2.

Unfortunately not, the audio is on tracks 1 and 2 and output settings are already on stereo.

Are the source audio tracks muted?

No they aren’t. I have nothing playing calibration tone either.

Okay, so apparently it’s a Blackmagic issue.

Strange problem. I’m thinking its not a BMD issue. The card passes whatever audio is fed to it. sounds like Avid is only sending audio from the timeline.
Try creating a new user in Avid and see if the problem persists.

Thanks for this – I’ve found that it is actually a Black Magic issue.
No changing settings, deleting MC states, creating users is gonna help.
I spoke to Black Magic, and a ridiculous limitation of this model is that without video, no audio comes through the box. So when trying to listen to music or voiceover in the source, no sound… Even if you turn off the video monitor on a sequence, no sound…
The website says compatible with Avid, but totally isn’t.

Yeah I found it a bit of a surprise too! Why would you design something like that?
I actually really like the box itself, so was pretty disappointed when I discovered this ‘little’ flaw.
I’m in England actually but if you’re going, feel free to hurl some abuse.

Too bad you are not on a Mac.
The AJA T-Tap is a really great inexpensive monitoring solution, but it only works with Thunderbolt.
