  • choosing the right MacBook Pro.

I intend to buy a new MacBook Pro (15), but I’m not really sure what options I should choose..
Is choosing all the bold-options overkill? What do I need for Avid editing? (read the avid system requirements, but what do you guys think)?

Is some of them unnecessary to have? What of the options below should I go for?

    Thanks!

    2,5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

    2,4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

    2,2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

    8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 2 x 4 GB

    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 2 x 2 GB

    750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm

    750GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm

    500GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm

Avid is not a particularly taxing programme. 4GB Ram and 2.2Ghz i7 will run the programme nicely. I would definitely go for the faster drive speed though.

IMO what you need for Avid Editing is lots of screen space (you can survive with a 17″ screen – if you go for the 15″ screen you’ll find yourself realising you need a second screen very quickly) and lots of FAST external hard drive space (don’t use the internal drive for media).

There will always be occasions when the higher spec processors and extra memory will make things a bit better, but most of the time when you’re cutting the 2.2Ghz i7 and 4GB memory are ok.
