  reposition video channel layer

  Hi

  Does anyone know how to reposition individual RGB channels on screen in Avid? I know this can be done in Final Cut Pro, essentially you can treat each colour channel as a video layer and reposition them on screen to give an old tv or bad print look.

  I need to do the opposite. I have a lot of dodgy footage which has the green channel a few pixels out of line with the red and blue channels. The effect is a slight fuzzyness to the picture and a slight green edging to many elements of the image.

  We did a test in Photoshop and then in FCP, and realigning the green helps the image a lot. Unfortunately we are editing in Avid, so we need an Avid solution. I’m sure I used this effect in some music montage ages ago, but I can’t remember for the life of me how I did it. If anyone can fill in the blank it would be greatly appreciated.

  Boris (BCC) has a couple of effects that would do this but it really won’t show up as seperate video layers but you can get the same look as you’re describing. I think BCC comes with your Avid App.

  I thought there might be something in BCC. Unfortunately I don’t have it installed on my current Avid. Can you remember what the effects are called? I’d like to get our online facility to have a look at it.

  BCC Misalignment is the one I am thinking of – it allows align or misalign of RGB

  I have used the misalignment plugin and it goes a long way towards fixing the damaged footage. The only snag is that the green channel is not only shifted along the y axis, it appears to be slightly rotated on the z axis.
  This means that using the misalignment plugin I can get one side of the picture to look better, but the other side retains the fault.

  Does anyone know of a way to ROTATE the colour channels individually? If Avid has the capability of seeing and acting on individual channels, as it does with the misalignment tool, there must be a way to apply any process to individual channels.

  How is misalignment processing the footage, and can this be recreated using base avid tools?
