I’m in the process of switching from FCP to Avid so I bought the tutorial book with CD. I copied all the footage over to my external hard drive, but once I eject the CD all the media shows up offline. I’m not even entirely sure how to re-connect media in Avid. Any ideas?

I’m assuming this CD has given you Avid media to work from. The trick is to put the MXF files inside a folder structure on the route of your media drive the goes Avid MediaFiles -> MXF -> 1
When you start Avid it looks in this directory for every connected drive and scans it for media. It then creates a media database for all that media so it knows where it is. A master clip will usually just link if Avid has a matching media file in a loaded database. If not, right click on the clip and select relink. Point it to the drive that the media is on and it should link based on tape name and timecode.
