Problems with DV files in Avid
Forgive me if this is a newbie question. I am relatively new to Avid MC, and found an interesting problem. I had a standard 4:3 NTSC 30i timeline project in MC 5.5.2(mac) . I Imported Several files from Apple DV/DVCPRO format. I made sure on import to use “Crop/Pad for DV” and brought it all in with field “ordered for current format”. Everything looked good on the timeline, no field order issues of any kind. I monitored on with the MX02 through an interlaced monitor. Everything looked great. I should note my media creation settings had me on 1:1, though I chose DV 25 411 on import of the files, so it would “Fast” import. I then exported a Quicktime file Using “Same as” settings, and file came out looking like this…

The bottom portion of the screen seemed to be cropped out?! or the image seemed squeezed, and stayed that way. I added a title in front of the DV material, and that seemed to fix the issue. It’s like the first frame needed to be “native” to fix that problem. However, on the second export, a large portion of the DV material (all from the same file) was now fielding wrong. And upon every crossfade between scenes, the video appears to squeeze in and out during transitions. It’s small, but the image raster appears to change during transitions between DV shots. This only does this on the final QT file out, never on playback from the timeline. I say all that to say, what did I do wrong? Why are some files fine, others not. Since this was a deadline project, I ran a DVD recorder from the MX02 to get it to DVD from the timeline. Had to be done. Just trying to figure out what I did wrong. I work with DV a lot, and I need to be able to output QT files. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
