  Transferring files to different HD

  I need to copy 400GB of files to a new hard drive, including the Avid project. I’ve had some issues with that earlier…

  I will not be using the current HD anymore after everything’s copied.

  How can I do this and still be able to open everything with no media being offline after it’s copied?

  I know it’s got something to do with the transcode/consolidate function… if someone could give me a step-by-step walkthrough, I’d be ever so greatful 🙂

  Let me see I understand your set-up: media is on an external drive adn you want to copy all the media to another drive.

  Copy the entire Avid MediaFiles folder to the new hard drive. Make sure there are no Avid MediaFiles folders on your internal HDD. Disconnect the old drive, start MC.

  One program that is great for helping search for media on all volumes is Media Mover.

  Open the media tool. Select all the clips for this project from all drives.

  Clip menu: consolidate/transcode.

  Consolidate all the clips to another drive.

  One option – ‘delete’ will delete the original media. The project will be hooked up to the new drive. Copy the project (at the desktop level) and go.

  Second option – don’t choose delete. When you do this, you’ll have two copies – the original and the new media.
  If you choose relink selected clips to target drive, the project will connect to the new drive (and it will rename the original media as .old.)
  If you don’t choose relink, it’ll keep it’s existing links on the existing drive and create .new media on the new drive. When you copy the project and put it on computer #2 – you’ll have to ‘relink’ it.
