  Export Settings

  All,

  So here is the situation. I have 4 productions completed that need to be transferred to DVD. All 4 productions run between an hour and forty-five minutes and two hours (School Plays). The issue that I have is that all of the files when exported are too large to go on a standard size DVD. As a teacher I do not have the funds to purchase the amount of large file DVD’s necessary for all of the copies I need. Is there a way to export the program files so that it will be compatible with DVD Shrink? At the school I work at, that is the only software that I have access to to compress the files to fit on a standard DVD and make the quality still look good. Any help would be gratly appreciated. I have numerous parents who have pre ordered copies of the productions and I need to get them completed before the end of the school year (June 20th).

  I believe, if DVD Shrink is the latest version, it will accept Quicktime Reference files, which is the fastest and easiest way to export from Avid.

  I will check the DVD Shrink version. If that is the case and all I need to do is upgrade the software then I will be a very happy camper. Quick Time Reference is what I prefer to export as because it is a lot faster.

  I could be wrong about DVD Shrink – but if it does not take Qt ref. files then TMPGEnc 4.0 Xpress will – I believe you can download a free 14 day trial. Sorry about my ignorance, it has been a long time since i have used anything but Sorenson Squeeze.

  Steve,

  The problem is that you’re trying to get 6+ hours on a single layer DVD; this just isn’t really going to look good.

  My best suggestion is to switch to a DVD-9; you can reasonably get 4.5-6 hours on that…and if it’s a wide shot of a play, you probably could get closer to 8.

  Jeff,

  I am only putting one program onto each DVD. So, it would be no more than 2 hours on each DVD.

  If you’re using Avid, it came with Sorenson Squeeze – a great tool to compress your video in the MPEG-2 format necessary for DVD authoring. Have you tried squeeze?
