Running MC Nitris DX, ver 5.5.1, HP z400, Win 7
Exported files (reference, audio, video) created for other apps are locked by Avid until you close the program. I can’t move, delete or rename the files. I did not notice this issue in v4.0 or previous versions, and it’s a real momentum-stopper.
Is this an Avid issue or a Windows “feature.”
    Thanks for any advice.

We use MC 5.0 Adrenaline, XP SP3 – We export reference files for Sorenson and can use them freely without closing Avid. You cannot rename reference files and have them still reference the media. You should be able to rename AV files immediately and freely use them at will. Our media is on Facilis terraBlock partitions mounted via fibre. I know this doesn’t answer your question but may give you info. to help resolve.

Thanks, Rick, for your reply. Yes, I can use them in Sorenson just fine. I’ve since found just closing the project releases them so I don’t have to exit Avid. I just never noticed this in previous versions of MC. But I’m pretty old, so the little gray cells sometimes fail me. Thanks again.

Are you saving them to the root level of your drives? If so, and if you have AMA on (that’s the default) Avid grabs any QT movies that are on the root level of your drives. And yes, you can’t do anything with them until Avid releases them.

If this is what you are doing, try saving the exports into a folder instead of the root level.

    Hi Terrance!
No, these are all in their own folders. Actually, the problem was with renaming some .wav files. Now that I know what’s going on, I’ll have to make sure the originating Avid project is closed. Thanks for taking the time to reply. — Mike
