  Keeping date info on consolidation

  Hi all,
  I take footage from my Panasonic HPX171 and then transfer it to a hard drive – I then link to this hard drive via AMA on my Avid and consolidate the footage onto my internal drives. It works really well, but the only downside is that I lose the creation date information as this is replaced by the date I do the consolidation. Is there any way of keeping this shooting date information on the consolidated clips? It just helps to keep the clips in order.

  Copy the info in the bin to another (custom) field prior to consolidating?

  paul,

  just as a side note, P2 material is MXF and supported native on MC via AMA
  you don’t have to consolidate to be able to edit and even FX and grade

  just copy the camera folders to a dedicated location on your internal drive (or a fast external drive) and link.

  you might need to transcode or consolidate your sequence at the end… but that is a lot simpler

  Thanks Bouke – very useful idea. Will give that a try.

  Hector – yes, I can definitely see the benefit of that work flow. I normally go for the consolidate option as I’m used to having all my media ingested and am a bit scared about the posibility of me moving something by accident! At least if everything is in the Avid Media Files folder then I know I won’t move that by mistake. I probably need to train myself in the new ways of Avid more though…

  Much safer would be to choose the ‘old’ P2-Import Clips / Import Media method (which shows up when you disable AMA and relaunch MC).
  That gives you a checksum copy in the right place with Avid-created containers. Just as fast as a copy.
