February 19, 2011 at 6:00 pmthanks for posting this. I would have assumed RS422 support, but when I assume, I am always wrong – from your link –
Is the RS-422 connector on AJA Io Express supported?
No. You can use tradition Avid deck control through the CPU.
What is up with AVID wanting to keep tying in with the Keyspan
USA-19x and the secondary 232 to 422 adaptor. Why didn’t the Nitris DX box have a native RS422 port ? Why isn’t there support of the I/O Express with 422. (I am just bitching).Bob Zelin

February 19, 2011 at 7:58 pmI always wondered that myself.
The only logical explanation I could come up with is that no extra money would have to be spent coding the logic for Media Composer to translate deck control from the various I/O devices (Mojo, Nitris, no I/O express, etc.)
I know: weak, right?

February 20, 2011 at 1:30 amI don’t know what is up with that documentation. I have brought it to Avid’s attention. The RS-422 deck control most certainly DOES work. I have been using it to test the IO capture with BetaSP and DVCPRO HD. Works fine.

February 20, 2011 at 1:43 amSo, to sum up:
Deck Control via the Keyspan to the IO Express is good, but host based serial (i.e. onboard a PC) is not.
This is what I kinda figured *shrugs*.
I think Avid is still rolling out all of the webpage info on 5.5; it was still only being posted at avid.com in spurts last week.

February 21, 2011 at 6:31 pmThat’s not surprising, as the Media Composer has worked just fine with the serial port on a Kona 3 card for the last few years.

June 30, 2011 at 10:59 pmI’m switching from FCP 7 to media composer 5.5 for all of the obvious reasons aka FCPX. i’ve been told that the only two io’s that will work with the avid is aja io express and the mojo. i own a kona 3 and was wondering if anyone has been able to make this work with media composer?
thanks in advance

No, the only two NON-Avid hardware options currently are the AJA IO Express and the Matrox MXO2 Mini. The Avid Nitris DX and Mojo DX are Avid hardware. BUT, they have announced they are working on broadening that to include more, including the AJA Kona 3

July 19, 2011 at 10:06 pmI believe there is a mistake here:
How many channels of audio are supported?
AJA Io Express supports 8 channels of embedded audio output the SDI and HDMI
My io express only sends two channels of audio throughh HDMI,but does do 8 channels through sdi. And I’ve read on a few other sites that only 2 channel audio is supported through HDMI on this unit.

July 19, 2011 at 10:30 pmTwo channels are supported on HDMI only on ANY capture device I use. Decklink Extreme 3D, Kona LHi, Matrox MXO2 line…IO Express, IO HD. This is a consumer format…sending audio to a TV in stereo…therefore, TWO channels. But then there is DOLBY SURROUND 7.1…perhaps that is what they mean by 8 channels? Your TV can only play two…as will anything with HDMI input, so why the need for 8 channels via HDMI?
