AMA EX1 relink problems!

Wonder if any of you have come across this:Just started on a feature length doco film – the producer’s system is an Avid MC 5.0.3 on OSX 10.6.6, dual quad Intel, and he imported (via consolidation) around 100 hours’ worth of material shot on EX1 via AMA, no problems.
After he consolidated the AMA footage into his drives, he renamed some of the original clips in the Avid bins. But has the original BPAV folders, etc., on separate drives, original file names intact.
Okay, so we started by duplicating the MXF and OMFI folders onto spare drives prior to moving a copy onto my system.
It seems that during the duplication process some of the originals were deleted or removed from the original drives on his system, because after we removed the spare drives from the parent system the original project came up around 10% offline clips.
So I now have his Avid system in my facility, all drives plugged in, and am trying to patch up the holes, and get the project back up online again before duplicating the media again onto my system and starting the edit.
Now, when I go back and link up to the original AMA EX1 folders, I see the bins show up on the Avid as usual, yellow clips etc., – except for the ones where, for instance, the V01 track is offline – i.e. the clips where the MXF files were deleted. Those just show up as regular Avid entries, V1 offline, because of course the audio mxfs and the master clips are still in the system.
This is such a weird glitch.
Even though the EX1 camera folders are present and all clips mount on the Sony viewer okay, the Avid won’t see the original camera clips at all via AMA, if it’s already got what it thinks is an Avid MXF already in its media database.
I was expecting to see the originally named EX1 clip show up in yellow and just reconsolidate over to replace the missing MXF files.
Do I have to delete the partially offline master clips entirely before AMA sees the original EX1 clips again? If I do that will the Avid see all duplicates? There have already been temp edits and stringouts done – and if I get rid of all the master clips, then what? Overcut everything again? Surely we’ve come further than that?
Anybody met this particular beast before?

Never mind….
Ahem. Just unmounted all drives save the drive with the EX1 folders in it. Then created a new blank project, linked to AMA volumes.
All clips show up yellow.
Consolidated missing clips to MXF and then relinked after that.
