Most portable Avid editing solution?
Posted by Tim Young on February 4, 2011 at 3:05 pmHi, If I want to tweak my sequences at home or on the train, what is the most compact/portable solution for running Avid MC5? Could I use a Macbook Air?

Use a qualified Windows Laptop or MacBook Pro. Also, make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM if you plan to make a new purchase of MC and a laptop.

February 5, 2011 at 5:22 pmI wouldn’t write off the Air.
I’ve occasionally worked on a 2.16GHz MacBook (non-pro), and that seemed to work. Trouble with the Air may be connecting a drive.
Also, you might like to have some screen real estate.I’ve got an MBP 17″ with MC5 and PT9, and an MXO2 mini. It’s the greatest thing, but still a bit heavy to carry around. It’s more for setting up a working area outside of the studio (most importantly as a portable setup in the back of a mixing theatre).

February 5, 2011 at 6:40 pmI would suggest waiting a few weeks. THEN look into a machine that will run Avid…say, after Feb 15th.
