Hi, If I want to tweak my sequences at home or on the train, what is the most compact/portable solution for running Avid MC5? Could I use a Macbook Air?

    Unfortunately, no.

Use a qualified Windows Laptop or MacBook Pro. Also, make sure you have at least 4GB of RAM if you plan to make a new purchase of MC and a laptop.

Air? No way. MBP? Sure. just check what the qualified hardware is.

I wouldn’t write off the Air.
I’ve occasionally worked on a 2.16GHz MacBook (non-pro), and that seemed to work. Trouble with the Air may be connecting a drive.
Also, you might like to have some screen real estate.

I’ve got an MBP 17″ with MC5 and PT9, and an MXO2 mini. It’s the greatest thing, but still a bit heavy to carry around. It’s more for setting up a working area outside of the studio (most importantly as a portable setup in the back of a mixing theatre).

I would suggest waiting a few weeks. THEN look into a machine that will run Avid…say, after Feb 15th.
