  • Fast & Effect MTS Import into Avid MC5?

I am trying to import hours of MTS files recorded from a Sony 550 (consumer AVCHD) into Media Composer 5. Several methods work (many posted elsewhere in the forum have been tried) but with significant drawbacks. An import of the MTS files directly into Avid takes a long time and looks pretty pixelated once complete. I’ve also tried converting with Clipwrap to DNxHD Quicktimes and importing those but it often leaves a problematic line over the footage. We’re trying to avoid purchasing Final Cut Pro to create ProRes Quicktimes. Any other suggestions out there? We have three systems (potential for a fourth) running Media Composer 5 on a Unity. This is for a 13 episode docu-drama series, so slow import options aren’t very viable for us, but we’ll take what we can get! Much thanks.

I use “AVS4You” software, AVS Video Converter 6 and render out QT files. Lifetime updates regarding all codecs but it is tied per license to the one computer (motherboard).

I just dropped an MTS file into Sorenson Squeeze (v6) that came with your system.

Any reason you haven’t tried that? It’ll make DNxHD or go to ProRes.

    Hi, dear Swanson.

As far as I know many users meet the similar trouble due to they used Avid Media Composer with the old version 5.0/5.5. You’d better upgrate Avid to 6.0 or 6.5.

If you want to use an easy way to solve the trouble, you can convert AVCHD .mts/.m2ts to a native fomat, DNxHD codec file, for directly transferring to Avid MC 5 for further editing.

    Have a good time!
