  • My dongle’s not working after upgrade

Posted by Trevor Ambrose on December 5, 2010 at 2:47 pm

    Hi Guys,

I just did something stupid. I own a registered Xpress 5.6 dongle which has been working great. I upgraded my Xpress to 5.84 and now it says my dongle isn’t licensed for this version. It still doesn’t work when I go back to 5.6.

    I’m really bummed.
    Any ideas?

This happened to me when updating some 2.5 composers. You might need to “blast” your dongle. I was able to use Avid’s process for any system beyond MC 3. But for the MC 2.5s, they weren’t in the system and Avid was able to email me dongle updater files. Not sure if my situation was a flike, or if it’s something to do with not updating in a long time on those systems. I believe your automatically covered by Avid support for the first X number of days after purchase. (not positive, we have a support contract). Support’s m-f pacific coast business hours though, unless you want to pay. … Good Luck. Hope it helps in some way.

Once I had the dongle updater file, I believe I followed the following instructions.

    1. Save the dongle updater file to your system. This file authorizes your dongle for specific upgrades. The updater file extension is .avd.

    2. Double-click DongleManager.exe. The Dongle Manager utility starts.

    3. Click the Update tab.

    4. Click the Open button, navigate to the dongle updater file, and then click Open.

    5. Click the Upgrade button. Your dongle is updated.

    6. Click the Scan tab to view the results of your dongle scan.

    Wow.
That was exactly the answer. I got my dongle reblasted and now it works.
Thank you for your kind help Andy.
