Time Code Burn in
Posted by Eric Futterman on November 29, 2010 at 9:03 pmIs there a faster way to add Time Code burn in to a project without the very long long long render?
I have an hour long series of interviews and it’s a 4 hour render!
Thanks,
Eric

November 29, 2010 at 9:10 pmAdd the realtime timecode burn-in, output to tape in realtime, capture that back in realtime. It will shave 2 hours off the turnaround time.

What version of Avid are you using? It’s been a realtime effect for a while now.

November 29, 2010 at 9:30 pmI believe Media Composer 3.0 introduced it, which was about 2.5 years ago now, if that helps.

November 30, 2010 at 1:56 amIf you do an EXPERT render of everything, not including that effect…you will have more realistic render times. I haven’t had to render that effect at all…even when exporting to QT. And I output in real time without rendering to my DVD recorder, or deck…
No rendering. MC4 and MC5

How is that? Avid always does a render when you export (although I think it’s a top-layer only render, which is pretty close to an Expert Render). Are you rendering along the way so it’s already rendered, or has Avid changed something?
I might have to test this.

November 30, 2010 at 3:47 amWell, I am exporting via the Matrox Mini w/Max, but I didn’t think it sped up rendering. It took 75 min to export a 90 min show after I slapped on the TC gen filter. The expert render of everything below that took 5 min.

November 30, 2010 at 12:42 pmThanks everyone for the replies. It sounds like I can just export a QT Reference file to make a DVD without rendering. Great advice. I’ll try it today.
To one of the people who replied I’m using AVID Media Composer 5.

December 6, 2010 at 7:16 amDefinitely renders the effect on export. Try it with/without and compare export times.
