  Embedded TC wave files won’t read in EDL

  Hi Guys,

  I’m not seeing the embedded timecode of waveform clips in my EDL.

  In the TC reader above the composer window I can see the correct TC but when I make an EDL all clips that are waveforms have a start TC of 00:00:00:00.

  I have figured that if the clips had a tape name (which they don’t) then the EDL will read the TC.

  I have tried modifying the source name and that is not allowed unless I unlink the clips.

  When I unlink the clips and modify the tape name it will not allow me to relink again.

  So I’m left with useless clips that can create an EDL but I can no longer play in my sequence.

  Is there a way to give these clips a dummy tape name without unlinking them?

  Any advice will be appreciated.

  Make sure you are selecting the proper timecode column (Start, SoundTC, AuxTC, etc.) and use Soundroll or other source as “tape” instead. Also, what version of MC/EDL Manager are you using?

  Hi Michael,

  First I must say thank you for being so helpful. It’s making a big difference.

  It’s an older Avid, MC3.5 and the EDL Manager is 23.6.0.

  I’ve tried all the different TC’s ie start, vitc etc.
  I’ve tried all the different tape ID’s ie. sound roll etc.

  The only thing that works is modifying the clips source (actually giving the clip tape name because it start with no tape name) but you can only modify the tape name when you unlink the clip. Then once you give it a tape name it won’t relink to the the media. A bit of a Catch 22.

  If only I could modify the clips tape name without unlinking the clip.

  If you have any more ideas I’d love to hear them. If not, no worries. You would not believe how helpful you have been in terms of setting up the project and getting proper EDL’s out.

  hmmm…. I know that MC v5 did offered a lot more flexibility with file based imports and EDL;s. Can you email me a bin with a sample sequence to

  As I mentioned to you in my reply in email, I was able to make an EDL in MC5/latest EDL Manager just fine from all the sources avaiable.
