  characters flying off a block of text

  hi all, i am trying to recreate this in After effects:

  I guess it has been generated with particle flow in 3ds but i think ae should be able to do it. I thought about using shatter, but i want to repeat this effect with different block of texts and fonts, so it would be very painful to have to redo each time a shatter map. Then i think particular, but i just don’t see how to input each character as a particle…and particle playground cannot give a fake 3d perspective per character so it is no good for me (and very very slow plugin).

  i found the solution, so i reply to myself:
  pre-comp the block of text
  apply shatter effect to it
  use the pre-comp itself as custom map!

  then think about de-activating anti-aliasing on the text and on the precomp, to obtain an accurate shatter map. Blur the edges afterwards
