Combining Frame Rates
So I just got some footage to edit and it was filmed on two separate cameras. Some of the footage is 720 high def 24fps and the other is just standard def 30fps. I tried to import the two together but if I import at 720/24fps it will not import the 30fps footage, and likewise if i import at the 30i setting it will not import the 720/24fps footage correctly. The video stutters heavily. Is there a way to combine the two formats without loosing the quality of the high def? Any help would be fantastic! Thanks!!!

The latest version of Media Composer will do this very nicely. What version are you using? Upgrade pricing is very reasonable now.

I am using Media Composer 3.5. The problem is I cannot upgrade because I am editing in a facility, it’s not my own software to mess with. I do own Media Composer 4.0 at my house but the problem then is that I don’t have the extension to play the .mov files. It’s a very confusing situation, haha.

Is the 720p off of tape, or file based? If file based, was it 720p/23.976p or 720p/23.976pN?

It’s file based. It’s from a P2 card originally but has been transferred into .mov files. And i’m pretty sure its a 720p/23.976p file.

Hmmm…. if you still had the original P2 files, you could run it thrugh MXFX tool and turn it into a 720p/59.94 with pulldown. With .mov files, and not having the ability to move to v4, you could always open them in After Effects, apply a 2:3 pulldown and create new .mov files at the 59.94 rate.
