  Compatibility of Avid MC 4

  If I start a project on MC 4, can I take the project to a previous release? In other words, If I have MC4 on my laptop, will it be compatible with my editing room G5 running MC 3.1.3 ?

  My MacBook Pro is Intell, but the older G5 is not, so it cannot run MC 4.

  Grateful for any advice before taking the plunge and buying MC4.

  Sequences and bins and media can be exchanged but there are two caveats.

  1. Color correction

  Color correction got changed with v3.5. This means that when you open an existing pre-3.5-sequence in 3.5 or later, it will prompt you that it is going to copy and promote the sequence to the new effect type. You will not be able to work with that sequence in 3.1, unless you first perform a “Demote” command on the 3.5/4.0 system.

  2. Codec

  With v4, there was a slight alteration made to part of the Avid codec. To be 100% compatible, you would need to install the newer version of the codec on your 3.1 system.
