  XDCam proxy files. Offline to Online question

  Just wondering if anyone has encountered any issues importing XDCam files between offline editing and online? Usually, I digitize 15:1 into my offline Media Composser and then do a Batch Capture into my Symphony suite for Online conform. This has been a fail safe way so far, but now we want to introduce pilotware into the scenario, so I believe using the proxy files is now the way to go. Just wanting to hear from anyone who might be using this method and any helpful hints he/she might have.

  There are a few issues:
  The proxies image quality suck, but it depends how important that is to you.
  You MUST ingest file based and assign a Disk Label, if you want to do a file based conform.
  Adding a disk label later on is impossible afaik.
  (Unlike a Reel name, you can add that later on..)
  You’ll love file based ingesting, way faster than ingesting over 422 / SDI, and since you keep everything native, the amount of storage you need is way less while maintaining your max quality.)

  The proxy audio sucks BIG TIME, and can add a lot of time to the re-ingesting.

  This will take some time as well, but way less than ingesting the full media, so you can edit your sound in online quality.

  Thanks Bouke,
  I completely forgot about the bad audio issue. 48K vs 8K. I’m hoping someone will post a demo showing the procedure on Avid as opposed to the one from Final Cut. Looks like that might be the way to go with this project.

  Well, i could (and should) make a demo video, but currently i’m swamped.
  But the demo will give you a good idea.
  Also the manual covers a lot of gotcha’s in Avid.

  Do toy with it…
