Can’t Export From Media Composer to Quicktime file 5mb
Posted by Robert X. golphin on August 31, 2009 at 2:31 pmI am facing a major deadline today, and I must submit a 2 minute video by email that is a quicktime file and no more than 5mb.
But everytime I try and export from media composer to quicktime, I can’t seem to get it to be no larger than 5mb.
I know it’s possible, because I’ve seen quicktime 5mb files online that are way longer than 2 mins.
I need advisement most urgently, and would be ever so grateful.
Thanks.

Does your Avid system have Sorenson Squeeze? If so, just export a QT reference file and let Squeeze use that. You will find numerous presets in Squeeze to get what you are looking for; moreover, they are completely customizable.

Yes it does have Sorenson Squeeze.
If so, just export a QT reference file and let Squeeze use that.
Forgive me once again since I am still learning these technical elements. But once I export the quicktime reference, how then do I Sorenson squeeze it? Do I import it back into the Avid timeline?

August 31, 2009 at 3:59 pmAvid has a function where you can send the QT ref directly to Sorenson (opens the program and readies the fie for encoding). I find it doesn’t work every time as advertised. So what I usually do is save my QT ref (Avid will make a video and an audio file) to a folder. Then, when I open Squeeze, I import the QT ref file (the .mov–Squeeze will use the accompanying audio file). Select your output settings and squeeze away. The resulting file will be a single .mov, .wmv, etc., with both audio and video.
HTH,

August 31, 2009 at 4:17 pmMr. Womble,
I’m still confused about something. On the timeline, I highlight it, then I go to export, and then I click on QT ref, it sends the file to my hard drive.
So how do I get the QT ref file from my drive to the sorenson squeeze?
And when I export it by clicking directly on sorenson squeeze, it goes to my hard drive but like usual far surpasses 5mb.
I don’t know if I’m making any sense or not. Again, I’m only semi-technically literate.
When I do what you suggested below, the Avid does save it as a folder. What I don’t understand is how to open up Squeeze.

“On the timeline, I highlight it, then I go to export, and then I click on QT ref, it sends the file to my hard drive.”
Once this is done, open SS and IMPORT the QT file. Assign the file one of the presets that meets your needs, or modify one of the presets by double clicking on the video attributes and then the audio attributes.
“What I don’t understand is how to open up Squeeze.”
You should have a SS listed under “Start/All Programs.”

August 31, 2009 at 7:20 pmI do not have SS located under Start/All Programs. Completely lost at this point.
