Moving MXF files and media onto different drive
Here’s the situation. I’m helping out a friend sort out his editing woes, and he has a pretty convoluted setup so I’ll try to provide as many details as I possibly can.
Let’s call his project “JAZZ PROJECT”. He was originally editing off a 1TB 4-bay eSATA raid system (let’s call this drive “RAIDset”) which quickly filled up, so he bought a 1TB single disk external eSATA drive (let’s call this drive “JAZZ PROJECT”) to share the load. However, JAZZ PROJECT started to die on him and Avid stopped reading it, although it was still mounting on his OS and his data was still accessible. That was when he decided to buy a 4TB 4-bay eSATA raid system (let’s call this drive “MEDIA”) and decided to compile all of his media onto one disk.
What’s the best way to do this? The Avid file system still baffles me a little bit, so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I think he’s moved the MXF files from RAIDset onto MEDIA, but I am unsure of how to handle the MXF files from JAZZ PROJECT because both drives have identical folder names containing different MXF files, so do I just drag the MXF files over and don’t worry about the folders? It’s all very confusing, maybe we were doing it wrong from the start, so if anyone knows the ‘correct’ way to go about this, please let me know.
