Using Symphony Nitris. Using an HD-SR deck as record, with adjusted deck setting to SRW-5500 24p.

Each and every time, at the in-point of every edit, the audio dissapears for a half second or so,and there is either a white or grey flash, or sometimes what looks like a reference hit.

Edit outpoints are fine for both A and V. When using a regular HDCAM deck set to 23.976, these edit-in “flashes”/”dropouts” do NOT occur.

Reboots of system and machine decks do not help when using the HDSR deck. When editing in regular HD/1080i onto the same HDSR deck,no problems occur of this nature…only when using the deck as a 24p deck.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

From what I’ve heard, SR-decks are notorious for handling inserts very poorly. I know lots of companies don’t do inserts on SR tapes, they only do full length relays to tape.

Interesting..thanks. Someone on an Avid NG suggested having engineering check our tri level sync generator.
As far as as our HDSR deck is concerned (we use a Sony 5500 SRW and also a SONy 5000 SRW), when I output to these decks in straight HD 1980i,I can edit all day and have few insert editing problems…I’ve just found HDCAm decks completely stable when outputting 23.976HD. HDSR decks seem to freak out a bit.
We haven’t gotten our engineering dept. into the loop yet,but we will.
Our problem is that we will very soon HAVE to output to HDSR,in 1080i HD,23.976 HD as well as 720p HD. All using the same deck. SO we HAVE to find out why insert edits aren’t working.
I’m surprised more people haven’t had this problem. Here, you’re the first to respond.

    Rob,
check your tri-level sync. I insert on hdcamSR all the time (at 59.94 and 23.98) without a problem. Also if you go into your video output tool, just click on the tri-level referance tab (this will cycle the ref for the aivd and get it to lock, if it wasn’t locked already)

  • I’ve never had this problem on multiple SR decks. You might try working around the sync issue by setting the SR deck to Input Video Reference. If you still have the problem, you’re likely looking at an issue with the deck itself.
