  • Upgrading from Express Pro 5.7 to Media Composer 3.0 (not 3.5)

    Hi All,

I’ve had the full version of Media Composer 3.0– repeat 3.0 not 3.5 sitting around for almost a year and it’s time for me to go ahead and install it. The only reason I haven’t done this yet is because I’ve had so many unfinished projects on my Express Pro 5.7. I seem to remember that there used to be some white papers with step by step instructions detailing the process but now everything is related to MC 3.5. Since this is a full version with a seaparate dongle, I’m assuming that I will need to uninstall Express Pro completely. But, alas, I still have three unfinished projects that I started in Epress Pro. Is there anyone that can point me to some step by step instructions for doing this correctly. Will I lose the three projects that are still on Xpress Pro 5.7??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

The only woman I’m pimping is sweet lady propane! And I’m tricking her out all over this town.

It’s actually really simple, and you’ll keep your project.

    1. Back up all your projects. Put them on a flash drive, seperate hard drive, or burn them to a disc. Just make a backup to be safe. Also, consider backing up your user settings, unless you want to rebuild them for Media Composer.

    2. Uninstall Xpress Pro. I’d restart the computer afterwards just for good measure.

    3. Pull the Xpress Pro dongle out, put in the Media Composer install disc and install it. It will probably tell you to restart the computer after installation. Restart.

    4. Pop in your Media Composer dongle. Copy your backed up projects to your Media Composer projects folder. Start Media Composer, open project, edit.

    That’s pretty much it.

    Matt,

Your projects should upgrade nicely from XP to MC, depending on how complex and/or reliant your XP edits are to 3rd party applications that may not be included in MC. There are some significant changes to file structure and locations, etc. in Media Composer. You should read the readme thoroughly before upgrading.
