  • Can I replace old media files with updated media files?

Posted by Chris Merillo on May 29, 2009 at 9:55 pm

I have 35 edited sequences that are all related to one project that used one set of art work. All my lower thirds were created using the color scheme of the original art. But now that I have 35 sequences built with about 5 lowers in each sequence, they decide to change the color scheme in the art work (from dark blue to light blue). Ugh.

The lower thirds are all photoshop files and I’ve recreated the lower thirds with the new color scheme in Photoshop. Is there a way I can import the new files (which are named exactly the same as the original files) and have them replace the old media? So essentially I want to link the old master clip to the new media file. Is there a way to do this so I don’t have to replace about 150 lower thirds?

I never have luck with the re-link command… is that the way to do it? I’m sure there has to be a way. Please? Please?

Never mind guys. I found my answer. I needed to do a batch import on the old clips.

Ideally you can just delete the associated media of your original master clip (don’t delete the master clip), then do a batch import and point it to the new photoshop file. It will import the new file and auto-update it across all sequences.

Is the new file the exact same dimensions as the old one? Only thing different is the color? If so, this should work perfectly. Just choose to batch import, point it to the new file, hit OK and maybe rerender some sequences.

EDIT: You figured it out while I was typing! Thanks for posting the solution though. Good for future searches.

I understand how to replace a file through batch import as described but what if (like in my situation) your originals were actually mxf files from davinci. How do you replace them then?
