I’ve got MC 3.5.1. It is a two screen MAC Pro system with a Matrox MXO on the second monitor. I’m working with XDCAM EX 1080p/30 footage.

Of course, when I first started a new project, MC did not give me an option of 1080p/30 … Avid support told me to start a 1080i/59.94 project and sure enough, I was able to bring in the 1080p/30 footage and have it play. Who knew?

My problem is that all the footage shot looks muddy. To try to trouble shoot, I recorded some bars from camera and also photographed a Macbeth chip chart. Everything looked good played back on the monitor. I checked the camera on the set with a scope and everything looked OK.

If I open the clips using the XDCAM EX Clip Browser Ver 2.05 software, the bars RBG values on the screen are 235/16 and the chip chart reads 230/39. (I’m using the DigialColor Meter utility which is part of OSX.) The footage looks OK and the readings are what I’d expect.

If I start MC and use AMA to open the clips, the bars look like I’d expect and read 235/16. However, the chip chart is unacceptably muddy looking. It reads 212/50. I’ve output it as a Quicktime movie and the results are the same.

I’ve also brought the footage with the bars and Macbeth chip chart into Final Cut. Both the bars and chip chart look good. The chip chart reads 225/25.

I’ve spoken to two folks at Avid support, tried a number of things to trouble shoot without any change or success. If I manipulate the footage with cc, I’m able to compensate but that doesn’t feel like a normal workflow.

Still scratching my head. Would appreciate any suggestions on trouble shooting.
