  Sony DSR-1800 / Media Composer 3. software compatible

  My university media office is planning to up grade our old Composer v.12 to a pure software driven Composer 3. software version. We would still like to use our DVCam Sony DSR-1800 deck with this. How do we out put from our SDI output port to interface with the MC software? Is is one of those mojo devices? Thanks.

  Yep! If you’re only working in SD, you can go with the MojoSDI. If you have the Firewire board in your deck you can skip the Mojo and go straight into your system.

  If you need HD as well, go with the MojoDX or NitrisDX. I suggest the NitrisDX.

  You would definitely need to get a Mojo as well to use SDI.

  I mention this only because you are a school and I hate seeing schools waste money.

  If you keep the old system, you can still use it as an SD capture and output system and make good use of the Meridien hardware you already own. The media is fully compatible with the newest versions of Media Composer and Symphony. This saves you from having to buy hardware for the new system. Considering the trend towards file based acquisition, it may be hard to justify the cost of a Nitris DX especially since it may not see all that much use.
