Have been working for a production company recutting some short form work.
The system, adrenaline/ mc 2.7- hp tower, is in a bit of a mess as one of the drives had failed, so media recovered and moved, and so its getting pretty full.
So a large bunch of omfs were transfered to a maxtor firewire drive.
Projects reopened, relinked, recut to maxtor, working in 2:1. Via 400. Each spot is about 40″. Fine.

When it comes to exporting, get halfway through doing qt ref and drive seems to eject itself?
Causing avid/ pcu to crash. When try to open qt’s, same thing.

The only reason I can think of is the drive isn’t fast enough. There is only firewire400 card on pcu.
An 800 connection should be adequate for uncompressed though?

Or maybe there is a bigger problem? Any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks,

    Seb

Dunno what’s happening, but (depending on the complexity of your show), exporting by ref does not always work. But 40″ should not be a problem.

    Few tips:
Make sure all effects are rendered.
Do NOT have ‘avid’ black in your timeline. If you need black, make a short video mixdown of black and insert that.

Do not open QT’s that are half finished, you can’t trust them.

If all fails, make a video mixdown and put it on top of the shows.

Having a drive self-eject sounds scary, and i cannot imagine how that relates to QT export.

Cheap drives are mostly sold formatted Fat32. I have seen that fail quite often. Format them as NTFS as soon as you can.

Had some black space in timeline, so will try the black mixdown thing, and/ or entire video mixdown.

Couple of other things I forgot to mention.
At some point there was ‘cannot export from this bin’
and a quaratined omf thing. What is that?

Figured at 400 drive couldn’t do the write/ read speed needed for 2:1?

Will try to get drive reformated also.

    Thanks again
