  Output from Avid Xpress to Mini DV camera

  Output from Avid Xpress to Mini DV camera

  My question is this ..
  is it possible to output from my Avid Xpress ver 3.1 to my DV Camera via DV input. That is the only input available on the camera (canon XL1) My Xpress doesn’t have a DV OUT. Are there any cables, adapters or connectors that would allow my to output from the Avid to DV?
  Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated.

  What you describe as DV in out is really firewire. Are you saying your computer does not have firewire output? It’s been a while since I played with your version of Xpress, but that was the preferred method of outputting video. You may (or may not) have problems with the XL-1.   Do you have any documentation that tells you how to set up your system to output? At the very least, it should be on the discs that came with your system.

  Thanks for your reply. I didn’t find anything about the XL-1 at the link you provided but I now know that the meridien break out box does not have a firewire in/out.
  It has – Composite video, Componet video, S-video & Serial digital video.
  I was hoping there was a work around to get my DV camera to see the output of my timeline while it’s running.

  I didnt’ catch you were using a Meridian. Though very stable, it was introduced in the late 90’s and firewire hadn’t grown up to become the standard I/O it is now.

  You can either use one of the analog inputs, or capture via another program, and import the resulting .avi or quicktime into the avid. You won’t have reference TC for redigitizing. You could also dub your DV to a different tape format…
