  • Too many items is bin. Bin won’t save.

    Has anyone seen this issue:

My company is working on an multicam sereis and have been using Unity for our media storage. We’re cutting with Meridian MCs on Mac G4 OS 9 platform.

It seems that one of our editors, who’s beend cutting the show open and last act, has been creating these huge bin files, even though his cuts are only 3 and 5 min. long respectively. They are just straight cuts w/ minimal effects and there are no other items in the bins except for the sequences. The bin sizes come out to be between 35 and 40 Mb.

As we add these cuts to the show build, the bin refuses to save and gives us the following error:

“Too many items in bin. Changes will not be saved.”

The only thing that we can come up with is that as the cuts are being saved, the Avid is referencing entire Mulitigroups instead of just the clips themselves. I rebuilt each cut using just the master clips and got the bins down to a much more managable level (3 and 7 Mb.)

Has anyone seen this issue before, and if so, what is the solution.?

    Thanks.

The older Macs were notorious for that problem. There was definitely a limit on the amount of objects you could have in a bin.

Can’t you just create a new bin and drag half the clips in the new bins?

As an aside, I’ve upgraded my MC Medridian to OSX and ver12 – it works great. Once you get to a point where you can do it, I highly recommend it, with these caveats:

-Your OS9 third party applications won’t work (Photoshop, AE, etc).
-I could never get the VLan to work. I had to use some old control cables you used to get with the Media Log software plugged straight into the Keyspan adapter.

What do you get for the pain of the upgrade? For me, the color correction was worth the price of admission!
