Avid is not being very helpful, so I turn to you, the faithful community, for any help whatsoever. My company has recently purchased a new avid studio toolkit setup with MOJO DNA from videoguys.com, I was having trouble updating the firmware for the mojo through avid receiving one of these messages everytime I try to open Avid and update:

    -Program Baseboard Firmware Failed

    or

-Unable to check Firmware/FPGA versions prior to update.

Everything is installed correctly and we have even tried getting a replacement MOJO because Avid thought that might be the problem. I still have the same problem. We had our computer built for us to match all of Avid’s specs. I cannot get a straight answer from any tech support. Does anyone know what might be going on here and how I could remedy this situation?

It would help to know what cards your using, OS version, amount of RAM, etc. Who built your computer? Have you run an Avid application on it prior to installation of the Mojo?

More detailed info will help nail down the problem.

Rack Logic built our computer for us.

    Motherboard — GI GA-945GM-S2 mATX 775 S/V/1gL DD

    Processor — P4-2.4/4MB/1066 Core2Duo 775 E6600

    SATA-2 160GB 7200RPM hard drive

    2 DDR-2/667 1GB ram

nVidia Quadro FX3500 250MB PCI-E graphics card 8.4.2.6 driver version

Win XP Pro Service Pack 2

ADS PYRO PCI 64 firewire card with TI OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

Avid Xpress Pro Studio Toolkit 5.6

I hope I found most of what you were asking, I am not very computer savy, but I know that we had the people who built this computer for us, build it to Avid’s specs straight from the qualified parts page on the website.

I have been able to use Avid with my mini-DV deck in the interim of waiting on our replacement MOJO to get work done, but other than that, this is the first version of Avid on this CPU and it came with this MOJO.

    Thanks for your help.

    From the Avid knowledge base:

    https://www.avid.com/onlineSupport/supportcontent.asp?contentID=9961

Your first error looks like you need to update the firewire firmware on your PC.

I couldn’t find anything on the second error. My geuss is once you get the first error fixed, the second will go away.

Also, make sure you read the Readme file/documentation first before you do anything else.

    HTH,

    Jon

How might I go about updating the firmware?

Try right clicking on My Computer, select properties, then device manager. Find the firewire card in the list, right click and select ‘update driver’.

Attempting to update the driver in device manager may not solve your
problem. You need to find out why the updater will not evoke the software.

Your problem is that some part of your computer architecture, either hardware,
software or both, is preventing the Mojo firmware from evoking the correct
update firmware response, and telling your version of MC to go to the Avid
website and run the Mojo firmware upgrade.

To find what is causing this is a process of elimination.

What type of 1394 (firewire) cable are you using? There are very recent
instances where the Mojo firmware update will not fire because it is plugged
into the computer with a different kind of cable that it was delivered with.

In our case. converting from Express Pro to Media Composer 4.05. running on new Nehalem Mac Pros.

We tried for three days to no avail, before I discovered the Mojo would not
update when plugged in with a nine pin to six pin, firewire cable, a necessary
move since the Nehalem has no six pin connectors on the bus.

As soon as I plugged the Mojo in to a 1394 PCI card with the old six pin cable,
and fired MC, the upgrade dialog appeared immediately, and ran automatically
    as it should.

    Good luck,

    CW
