I use MC with SDI Mojo.

we shoot DV50 on our tapes. and i have been capturing at 2:1 forever. I captured at DV50 today as a test and realized that the clips look the exact same.

have i been capturing the wrong way at 2:1 or is there a quality increase over DV50 that i am not seeing?

i am guessing that since my tapes are DV50, then no matter what…1:1, 2:1, and DV50 should all be the same quality since the source is at DV50. am i correct in saying this??

you a ecorrect as far as ya can’t make it look any betterby tying up needless drive sace ith 1:1. You can degrade the qaility with DV25 though. I have not seen any visual difference on the scopes or monitors between DV50 and 2:1. I enjoy the space savings. I capture at 1:1 or 2:1 when working with keyable material. Havn’t seen a need in it when capturing Dv material.

If your tapes are DV50, you should capture DV50.

1:1 is a waste of space and will not improve the picture, since the compression was already done in camera.

2:1 is probably degrading the image to a small degree as you are essentially double compressing everything.

There would be some benefit in capturing in 1:1 or 2:1 if you were shooting DV25, as that codec uses the inferior 4:1:1 color space….DV50 is 4:2:2, like the others.
