  Sony JH 3 Deck to Down Convert while Digitizing

  Greetings
  I am trying to avoid a trip to the transfer house by using the Sony JH3 to do my down converting as I digitize into my Avid Meridian 10.5.2. The picture is being shot on HD Cam and I need to down convert the clones to SD to get the media into the Avid. I have a few concerns that I would like to look into. I have not used this deck before and any help would be great. Here are my immediate questions. What will happen to my Time Code as I go from a 23.98 tape thru the down conversion to SD 29.97. I am using the deck to both down convert and digitize into the Avid at the same time. What TC do I get? What is likely to happen with reverse telecini if I am cutting in a 23.98 project. Which TC am I seeing the source or the SD down convert.

  You are seeing a 30fps NDF timecode (if deck is set up correctly) with “A” frames falling on all timecodes ending in:

  :00
  :05
  :10
  :15
  :20
  :25
  Set up your Film/24p setting to “A” relationship to 00:00:00:00 and you can capture on the fly.

  The START timecode column reflects the 30fps NDF timecode of the captured source. Highlight the entire START timecode column and do a command-D/ctrl-D and select TC24 from the pop up dialogue window and click OK. All 30fps timecode will be converted to 24fps based on the timecode/pulldown relationship of the first frame of each clip accurately reflecting the timecode of your HDCAM masters.
