I have been happily locked in a room with a Media Composer system for more years than I care to admit. On occasion I get to venture outside and work on other systems. I have very limited experience on the Symphony system- just enough to see that it is basically the same as the MC when it comes to basic editing stuff- timeline, transitions, and the like. I was recently asked if I could work on an emergency session on new client’s Adrenalin system. “Why, sure” I told them. Am I getting myself into trouble? Is the Adrenalin system easy to pick up for an old Media Composer guy? Or should I panic and run away? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Do you mean you use a Media Composer, as in an older, hardware based system? Media Composer is now the software–Adrenaline is the break-out box.

If you use Media Composer you can use a Media Composer Adrenaline. You might see more resolutions available, more capture options (SDI, Firewire, Composite, S-Video, Component, etc…), but otherwise the system is pretty much identical to the old version but with new stuff added. You should be fine. The Avid interface doesn’t change until you get to DS.

    Michael.

No project is ever finished, only abandoned in a state of near completion.

Thanks. That’s just what I needed to know. And, yes, the Avids I normally work on are old hardware-based systems, circa 1995. Some with the old paired 9 gig hard drives. Old systems in old companies that still work fine for their purposes. Simple industrial and instructional programming that usually gets laid off to VHS tape- they don’t have DVD players yet.

I just got off the phone with them and it is a simple cuts and dissolves program with a lot of text bullets. I should be fine. Thanks again.

the fact is, you’d never have a gig if ya didn’t say well sure!
ya gotta throw yourself in. You have to be able to do what you say but you do have to push yourself beyond your comfort level all the time. I took a staff gig at a big network in ’95. They hired me over the phone after asking if I had experience on the the Adcom Nighsuite. After responding “well sure”, agreeing on a salary, and scheduling a moving date to Nashville, I sought out the one and only NighSuite in Dallas and crashed coursed the heck out it. Turned out to be the best staff gig I ever had. And that gig, of course, led to the next one, leading to the next and so on. Long story short, had I said “no but I’m a quick learner”, I’d still be working for a fraction of my worth.
You’ll feel right at home on the Adrenaline. There are a few more bells n whistles to play with. FluidMotion is one of the coolest. you’ll find it crashes infinatly more than what you are use to. This isn’t you. It’s just how Adrenaline likes to play.
