MultiCam Editing
I have never had to really cut a TV show with multiple cameras. I have mainly done field stories and other corporate video projects – PSA’s, highlight reels, etc.
Today I had to cut something – group mode – which I know how to d0 – just never had to – a game show with multiple cameras – LINE CUT, ISO 1, ISO 2, ISO 3…
My question is what is the SOP for cutting something like this…
I layed out the line cut, and where the script was cut somewhere, I then used an appropriate ISO camera.Anyway I am missing that I need to know? Any tips.

I only spent 2 1/2 years in the Army but I was stumbling over an SOP three our four times a day.

I’d say SOP is to make the program look like it wasn’t chopped up — a smoothly flowing production that was planned exactly the way you see it on screen at home. Ideally your cutaways are used to emphasize a point, catch a facial expression, etc. Sometimes it’s just to cover bad shooting.

Would you start with the Line Cut and then switch cameras as needed…

I’ve never cut a game show (only AE’d a bit on one), but IIRC the SOP was to use the line cut as much as possible and only go to an ISO as needed. So, if the director did a good job the editing should be pretty quick and painless. Also, staying on the Line Cut as much as possible makes it easier to go to online ’cause there is less tape loading going on.

ISO is short for “isolation.” For example, ISO 1 would be footage from camera 1.
