  JVCHD100U capture format for Avid and other WIndows Applications

  Hello,

  I been wokring on a project the prodcuer has Avid Express Pro 5.6, I think its that versionabout 2 years ago he bought it I think. We shot on a JVC HD100U camera, footage was shot 1280×720, 720p 25/50 settings.

  I want to be able to capture this footage, and exchange with-in Avid and other applications such as Adobe Prmeiere pro, After Effects.

  DOes anyone have any workflow ideas on doing this so Avid can read my clips and timecodes?

  Big problems: Avid Xpress Pro can’t read 720P 25/50. It’s been a huge complaint on the Avid forums and for good reason. I believe you have to go all the way up to Symphony or Nitris before you’re given that capability, although Avid has said they’re working on making it available in Xpress and Media Composer.

  It was originally supposed to have been available Q4 of last year, I think, but it still hasn’t surfaced. There have been murmurs that it’s one of Avid’s top priorities, but until it’s released all the promises in the world won’t help you. I believe FCP does 720P 25/50, and possibly Premiere Pro? I don’t use either so I can’t say for sure, but that’s an option for you. In fact, if Premiere Pro does 720P 25/50 that’s the way I would currently go because of their integration with AE, Photoshop, etc…

  Hello,

  Thanks for the info, I myself do not persoally use Avid due to they seem to take ages to catch up with the latest technology on their DV products and lower end non hardware based software solutions.

  I currently use Adobe Premeire Pro 2.0, but have to use Vegas to capture the M2T files form the camera works perfect, but 9n Adobe Premeire cant read the tapes properly, audio goes out of Sync etc etc.

  It’s annoying now about the clips as Avid won’t be able to read them, they have to edit on Avid, but I am not really sure how they can? I have an idea, as I have converted these to M2T files captured formthe camera.

  I am going to drag/drop the clips onto a FS4 firestore from Focus with the HDV upgrade.

  Then I will drag/drop the clips from the hard drive to there unit as I was told it can play out the hdv to mini dv out of the inputs. So i think that might be the only current solution at the moment.

  Hope Avid pick up the pace soon though!
