  Move drives between systems

  I want to move my Avid MesiaDrive rS80 h/Ds from my old Win2000 XpressDV to my newer XpressPro running on XP.
  Can someone advise my on how I should safely use these drives on Xp when they were originally only supported by Win 2000.

  I thought I’d ask before just connecting, and creating problems.

  Its safe. When you put the drives on your new system, you will not see them. You must go into the Microsoft Disk Manager, and you will see it say FOREIGN DISK – you must right click on this, and IMPORT FOREIGN DISKS. This will mount the drives into your system.

  If you are nervous about doing this – practice with any firewire drive. If you don’t have a spare firewire drive lying around – STEAL ONE – that’s right – break into the house next door, hit your neighbor on the head, and steal their firewire drive. Put it on your Win 2000 computer, dump some material on it, and then move it to your Win XP system, and practice this simple process, before you lose your media.

  Your neighbor will recover, but you may not.

  I had a drive that I had stolen from an old lady down the road, so I was able to connect that to the XP kit. Lo and behold…just as you said…no problem.
