Unable to Output Digi Cut to Mini DV
Hey there,
I am having a hard time outputting to mini DV camera (tried panasonic DVx100b and a Canon 1 chip) from my “24p” ntsc sequence at dv25. I have tried altering every setting i can think of but i basically crash the application (xpress pro) and computer after the camera is hooked up and turned on. If the camera is off I can play the sequence but as soon as its on i can’t even play the sequence with out it choking. It also can’t find the TC on tape and often gives me an error “audio dio sample rate….” or another …”flamethrower>>.” sorry i’m not more specific. I’m using the camera on the firewire 400 input to my Mac G5 Quad and the Lacie drives have my media on the firewire 800 port. Is there a typical workflow set of settings to output from this kind of set up? Is it my camera? Is it because its 24p Ntsc project? or is it that the audio came from a CD? or my computer?
Also i couldn’t digitize at DV 50 had to do DV25.

FW400 is too slow for a digital cut – you’ll have to buy a hub or another FW800 card… Same goes for the digitizing…

Thanks for the info, I wonder what people used before FW 800?

What? FW400 is 400Mb/s…DV is 25Mb/s how is that too slow?
I’ve been spitting out digital cuts via standard 1394 for years.
Am I missing something?Erik.

What format did you shoot on? If you shot DV25 and are capturing via FW then you can only capture at DV25. If you try and capture using DVCPro50 the computer will look for a DVCPro50 deck (which it obviously won’t find ’cause you are using DV25). Also, you mentioned using CD audio. On import did you change the sample rate of the audio from 44.1k to 48k?
I can guarantee you that the problem is not because you are using FW400. FW400 and DV were pretty much made to go together and I regularly capture DVCProHD via FW400 and have no problems and that’s 4x the data of DV25.

I shot it on minidv on a panasonic dvx100b at “24p ntsc”. I haven’t tried a hub as previously suggested because that didn’t really quite make sense. However the capturing although not very cooperative did work, it’s the outputting thats the current problem. I will try reimporting the cd at 44.1 instead of converting it on import to 48. just a habit. and remarry it to a duplicate sequence and see if that changes anything, will let you know, i am constantly doing that at work on adrenaline with no output problems, so we’ll see.

I still had problems:
“you have selected a start point which is a C or D frame this is not supported if you choose to continue the digital cut will act as if it were an A or B frame respectively” clicked continue and then i got,
“exception: ADV Audio DEV: failed to set DIO audio sample rate.”
THEN I decided to cut out the audio altogether to see if I could output video only, “deck failed to cue properly please check edit and pe-roll points”
I tried several diffferent in points, cue the deck locally, etc etc. it would always rewind to far and stop. Also please note i could only select “crash” was unable to select insert or assemble edit.Just curious but would not having a MOJO in this setup affect this? I was told i don’t really need one.
and should i have the deck/cam input to the front of the CPU as opposed to both cam and drives going in on the 2 FW400/FW800 ports on the back?At my wits end, I appreciate any suggestions.

First off, my apologies – I saw DV50 and FW400 and based my statement on that. That’s what I get for answering posts on a caffene deficiency!
Have you checked to see if your camera is a supported device?

As for not being able to crash on assemble edit, go to deck preferences in the settings tab and make sure ‘allow assemble edit’ box is checked.
Also, make sure your audio project settings match your source material.
