    Hi Guys…

Ever want to consolidate a set of material for archive, but don’t have another drive hanging around?

    Here’s a way to work around it…

Go to your media drive and make a new folder for archive (I’ll use “M:/archive folder” for this example)

    Now go to Start Button

Got to RUN and type CMD to open a command prompt…

Choose a drive letter that is not being used by the system (in this example I’ll use Q:)

    Type:

    subst q: “M:/archive folder”

    Now open my computer…

You’ll notice the addition of a new volume for the M Drive (it will have the same label of your media drive not the flder you chose)

this acts as a temporary lettered shortcut to that folder…

Avid will see this as a volume…

now you can go back to avid and consolidate all of aprojects media and material to that new M: volume, essentially moving it all out of your Avid media folder…

    when you are done…

go back to the dos prompt and type:

    susbst Q: /d

this removes the temp drive letter assignment…

    enjoy!!

    🙂

It might be a good idea to correct your typos for those who haven’t done this before. Especially when it pertains to command prompts.

    Just a suggestion

also… the most important should be noted:

the only time Avid should be open is when consolidating. All the other steps Avid should be closed.
