The many uses of a Remote Cable (if any)?
Posted by Austin Ray on March 9, 2006 at 7:11 amWith any Remote Control (such as Digitize in Avid Media Composer or any other app like Black Magic Deck Control) is it possible to control timeline in another Avid Composer?
How?

some mediacomposers offer vt emulation,(under special menu)
poss uses, for a digital cut, you can control/run a sequence from a dvw by selecting player on the digi front panel, a la machine to machine editing. Media composer will respond to the obvious transport commands, but before youy ask record has no affect, nor eject!
I’ve seen avids controlled over 422 by slo-mo controllers, grass valley etc.
any questions mail back

March 9, 2006 at 12:39 pmHi!
I have an old Avid Media Composer 9000 (on Mac OS9) and I have a Apple G4 with BlackMagic DeckLink (SDI). I want to use Black Magic Deck Control (the software) to grab things from timeline in the Media Composer. The reason for this is that I use Autodesk Media Cleaner to create moviefiles for web on the Apple with DeckLink.
Any chance this is possible?
As for now, I crash in, which is a problem when you’re alone in studio (some distance between the machines).

422 from black magic to media composer as if it were a deck, check in your settings under vtr emulation, you can chose various deck types, best chose something you know balck magic recognises-bvw75 is a fairly standard emulation mode, you must then enable vt emulation under special, then you should be able to treat the media composer as a vt, just put the appropriate seq in the monitor.

March 10, 2006 at 11:43 amI cant seem to make them work together: no matter which preset i choose in avid, nothing seems to change. Nothing happens. Same problems goes for connecting to DigiBETA or DVCAM player.

March 13, 2006 at 7:19 amHave you used a special “crossover” Remote lead?
The Avid CANNOT auto detect wheather it is a “controling” or “contoled” device, unlike most VTR’s. You need a special cable with the TX and RX pairs swaped.HTH

March 13, 2006 at 9:06 amIs there a shematic or a instruction on what this RX/TX swapped cable looks like? Which pair is TX and RX?
Does this explain that I’m unable to remote DigiBETA and DVCAM players with the DeckLink card as well?
