One of my co-workers, for whatever reason, moved all of the OMFI media files out of the OMFI folder and placed them into a temp folder on the same drive. He then moved them back into the original OMFI folder. I think he was attempting to back up something or another, but in doing so, he managed to de-link everything. So now, the media files for about four projects are offline. I thought maybe if I deleted the database files in the OMFI folder, Avid would re-write them and re-link everything. But it won’t even let me do that and I can’t do anything with any of the files in that folder now. I get the, “the file is in use or the disk is write protected” window that pops up when I try to do anything. I’ve re-booted, etc…same thing. I’m at a loss here. Any suggestions? I appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Turk

this may be too obvious but you didn’t mention it in you post.
    RELINK?

If this doesn’t work drag the files again to a new folder, copy the media folder name, rename the folder, paste the origional name to your new folder and then allow avid to rebuild its databases. The folder name is critical within avid…(OMFI MediaFiles).

Has someone changed the read/write permissions for the folder/drive?
For windows, right click, properties, security – permissions…

I got it- someone had changed something in the security. I went into the security setting, set to default settings. This allowed me to move the files, etc. So I then moved to another folder re-booted, dropped them back into the original OMFI folder, deleted the databases and voila! Everything is back online.
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it
